On “Mornings With Dave & Natalie,” we asked for your help compiling a bucket list for my first summer in Madison – and boy, did you deliver! I checked off many of your suggestions throughout the summer – and beyond – and am writing about my experiences in this blog. You can also follow along on Life 102.5’s Facebook and Instagram pages, where I’ll be posting as I go. Thanks for helping me make such memorable experiences as I get to know the area!
Ever have the feeling that you could really use an adventure? That was me last week, so I consulted the bucket list and dragged Cristina from weekends with me out to Governor Dodge State Park! (She didn’t complain — especially when I told her there would be horses involved!)
I read great reviews for Doby Stables in Dodgeville, which hooked us up with two horses, Callie and Fudge, for an hour-long trail ride to explore the park in style. Our guide, Kristen, owns the stables and gives these tours May through November. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather to enjoy the day!
The biggest shout out of the day goes to my girl Sarah Tachon. If you don’t know her, she does a weekly segment with Dave and I on the morning show called “Kindness Is Contagious,” and she is legitimately the kindest person I’ve ever met.
The horseback riding situation was BYOH (bring your own helmet), and when we reached out to Sarah to see if she had two we could borrow, she not only said yes, but she loaded us up with all the goods. She drove from Evansville to Madison to bring us helmets, boots, hats and horse-themed decor for our homes. AND snacks. She is pure gold.
As fun as riding horses was, I do feel like there was probably a lot of good hiking we missed, so I’ll definitely be going back to the park someday.
Until then, what should I do next?
