Do you know who you are in Christ? When it comes to understanding our identity in Christ, Danielle Strickland says that it’s important to realize that God originally created all human beings good. She tells the story of how this point was driven home in her own life through her bedtime routine with her son.

Danielle was tucking her son Moses into bed and, like every night, she asked a simple question. “Moses, who made you?” Moses would look at her and he would say, “God made me.” Danielle would then ask, “How did He make you?” Moses would look at her and say “He made me good.”

“As he said it, I felt something change inside of me. It moved me. I realized it moved me because I had been taught differently. I realized that somehow I believed that I had been made bad and that God made me good.”

Danielle acknowledges that as humans, we do have sin nature. On this earth, our sin nature distorts what God originally created. However, God’s original intention was to create us good, and that’s exactly what He did. Danielle says that understanding this truth can help us find true freedom.

“Any kind of slavery or oppression doesn’t fit us. If we were happy being slaves everything would be fine, but we’re not because we weren’t made for slavery, we were made for freedom, because when God made us, He made us good. The first truth is that you were made in the image of God and the sacredness of God is in every single person. The freedom journey is finding who we were originally made to be by God and agreeing with it.”

As we begin to agree with our true identity in Christ, something loosens in our Spirit because because we start to realize that slavery doesn’t fit us.
