Christmastime is filled with love and light and laughter. You hear the familiar carols and they sing of unspeakable joy…but you may not feel that this year. You’re not alone, so many have lost loved ones recently and going through the Christmas season without them seems unbearable and unthinkable. I’ve been there. My husband died suddenly 8 years ago and I barely remember that first Christmas without him but I do remember driving the 2 hours to my parents’ home near Aitkin, MN alone and crying the whole time as this was a drive we both had loved for years on Christmas morning, laughing and singing along with the Christmas songs on the radio. With time, John’s loss has gotten better and the sad part of my heart is filled with loving memories and I’m able to help others in the early part of their grief journey.

If you are dealing with grief this Christmas, my heart goes out to you. Reach out to friends and family. Find an empty chair service at your church and feel free to cry and remember but also to celebrate a life that hopefully knew Jesus as their Savior because you WILL see them again. If you have a friend or relative who is on a grief  journey TALK about their loved one, tell them stories around the tree this year. When someone tells me they remember John and tell me a story it brings me such joy. May joy be yours as your loved one spends Christmas in Heaven.

Christmas in Heaven
by Unknown

‘Tis Christmas in Heaven
What a beautiful sight!
It’s my first one here;
Everything is all right.

The crib is adorned
With the brilliance of stars,
Wisemen have come
From near and far.

I’ve met all our dear ones
Who preceded us here;
The reunion was lovely,
An event full of cheer.

And tonight we’ll all gather,
In reverence we’ll kneel,
For the Babe in the cradle
Up in Heaven is Real.

I think of my family
that I left behind
And I pray that your Christmas
Is as blessed as mine

Please shed no more tears,
For my soul is at rest,
Just love one another;
Live life to its best.

Yes, It’s Christmas In Heaven,
So I’ve heard them say,
Yet, Christmas In Heaven
Happens every day.
